A number of homes have been evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious device in Banbridge this morning (Saturday).
Police were at the scene of the alert in the Hawthorne Hill area of the town.
A PSNI spokesperson has confirmed a number of homes have been evacuated as a result.
They later confirmed that the device found was in fact viable.
“A viable device has been recovered and taken away for further forensic examination,” said the spokesperson. “Around 25 homes were evacuated during the incident and residents have now returned to their homes.”
There are no further details at this stage.
