Tributes have been paid to an “incredible human being” and avid Co Down hiker who tragically lost his life in a mountaineering accident in Wales.
Father-of-two, Adrian McAnarney, from Katesbridge, died while hiking in the area of mount Snowdon on Sunday (August 2).
Those who knew Adrian have said he was the “kindest person”, who “loved hiking”. His passion for the hobby led him to be incredibly supportive of those less experienced, often offering words of advice and encouragement.
He traversed paths across the globe, to Kilimanjaro and beyond.
In 2023, Adrian and friends scaled the world-famous African mountain to the benefit of Southern Area Hospice (now Evora) raising more than £50,000 for the services.
Those who walked with him regarded it a “privilege” and an “honour”.
His death has shocked and saddened his local community and those from much further afield. As a man, he was warmly regarded as “kind”, “gentlemanly” and an “amazing friend”.
A death notice described him as the devoted husband of Monica, cherished father of Jack and Charlie, loving brother of Sean, Brian, Eamon, Cathal and Jacqueline McClorey and son of the late John and Margaret.
His funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
