A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being attacked in Banbridge on Friday afternoon.
Police have now confirmed that they are now treating the incident as attempted murder.
Two men had originally been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
The incident happened at around 4pm at Scarva Walk.
The two remain in custody and are being questioned.
Meanwhile, police are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.
A spokesperson said: “If you haven’t yet spoken to our detectives and know something about the attack or witnessed it, please call 101. The incident is 807 of 21/07/17. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
