Man in critical condition after ‘hit and run’ incident in Dromore

A 28-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by a car in an early morning incident in Dromore on Sunday.

Police received a report shortly before 1.50am of a collision in the vicinity of Market Square involving a male pedestrian and a black Toyota Yaris.

The car is reported to have made off from the scene following the incident.

Inspector Woods said officers attended along with paramedics from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and the injured man was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

A 20-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of a number of offences, including dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and driving with excess alcohol. He remains in police custody.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information.
