Rathfriland man ‘unanimously ratified’ as new Grand Master of Orange Order

'An incredible and well-deserved appointment for someone who has faithfully served the Institution for many years'

A Rathfriland man has been elected as the new Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland making him the 21st person to hold the position in the Institution’s 230 year history.

Wor. Bro. Harold Henning was unanimously ratified as the Institution’s new leader having served as Deputy Grand Master for 11 years.

He replaces Most. Wor. Bro. Edward Stevenson who held the position since 2011.

Speaking after the meeting of over 100 senior Orangemen, the new Grand Master said: “I am truly humbled to have been chosen by the Brethren to become their Grand Master.

“The Orange Institution plays a central role in the life of many local communities, and I am committed to ensuring the organisation continues to grow and develop in the years ahead.”

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart shared her best wishes to Harold following the announcement, adding: “Delighted to congratulate my good friend Harold Henning on his election as the new Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland.

“An incredible and well-deserved appointment for someone who has faithfully served the Institution for many years. Wishing Harold every success as he steps into this important leadership role.

“A heartfelt word of thanks as well to Edward Stevenson for his faithful, dedicated, and unwavering leadership since 2011. His service has left a lasting impact and will be remembered with deep appreciation.

“Wishing both Harold and Edward every blessing for the days ahead.”

Rathfriland District No. 3 said of their member: “Congratulations Bro Henning a fantastic man for the role. A very humbling day for you and the family.

“Rathfriland Dist Officers and members are proud to say you are one of us and wish you Gods richest blessings in the years ahead.”

Rt. Wor. Bro. Derek Reaney was also elected to the post of Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland.

Rathfriland District No. 3 also wished Derek every success, continuing: “Many congratulations also to Bro Reaney becoming Deputy Grand Master and a huge thanks to Bro Stevenson for his last 14 years of leadership as our Grand Master.”
