A man is in hospital with serious head injuries following a violent assault earlier today (Friday).
Two men have been arrested in connection with the brutal attack which happened in the Scarva Walk area of the Banbridge around 4pm.
Police are appealing for information from a number of witnesses in the area at the time.
A police spokesperson said: “Two males have been arrested for grievous bodily harm with intent as a result.
“One of the males was also arrested for multiple assaults on police, resisting arrest and criminal damage to one of our cars.
“There were several people at the scene, and whilst we tried to get round everyone, as you saw – we had our hands full!
“If we didn’t get speaking to you and you witnessed any of this incident which may have started outside the fire station and ended up in the flats, please contact us on 101. The incident is 807 of today.
“This was a horrendous incident which has left a man lying in hospital with serious injuries. If you know anything, please speak up.
“One of the suspects and one of our colleagues required hospital treatment after the incident. Both have now been released.
Detective Sergeant Colin Patterson said: “Anyone who saw this assault taking place and has information that could be useful to police should contact us on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 807 of 21/7/17.
“Alternatively, information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
