A Banbridge woman who failed to take up a fixed penalty for speeding claimed to have lost her licence in a car accident.
Laura Marie Rooney, 34, of The Grange, pleaded guilty to excess speed at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Prosecution outlined that on May 21, at 8.22pm, the defendant was detected travelling at 72mph on the A1, Dromore, in an Audi A3.
This was 12mph in excess of the speed limit.
After being offered a fixed penalty for the offence, Rooney failed to take this up within the required time.
Representing herself, the defendant explained: “I lost my licence in a car accident which was not my fault. The car was completely written off.”
Rooney was handed three penalty points and was ordered to pay a fine of £80, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
