Young people gaining access to top of Dromore viaduct sparks concern

Concerns have been raised after it came to light that groups of young people were gaining access to the top of Dromore’s viaduct.

Alderman Paul Rankin raised the issue with Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council and has asked that the location be assessed by the estates team.

Speaking on the issue, Alderman Rankin said: “I would be very concerned for the safety of anyone accessing the top of the viaduct. I would also appeal to parents to please ensure that you are aware of where your teenage kids are and what they are doing.”

It has also been reported to the elected representative that groups of youths gathering in the evenings in Dromore Park have been causing damage to public toilets and smashing bottles beneath the park bridge.

The Alderman recently met with Police and Council officers to discuss the ongoing concerns.

He added: “There are CCTV cameras on the outside of the public lavatories, but police are reliant on the public reporting incidents when they occur.”
