Child suffers ‘horrific’ injury after falling on broken glass in play area

A child suffered an “horrific” injury after falling on a piece of broken glass in a children’s play area in Bessbrook.

Bessbrook Community Residents Association posted this image (blurred due to the extent of the injuries) on social media to highlight the dangers.

The youngster suffered the nasty open gash from his wrist to shoulder on Monday evening while playing in an public green area between Acorn Hill and Dobson’s Way.

“A very upset and annoyed parent has contacted us this evening to urgently warn parents to check any public grassy area they allow their children to play on, as her son sustained a horrific injury this evening from broken bottles,” the Association posted.

Adding: “He sustained an open gash from his wrist to his shoulder.

“The past few nights have seen a number of males, not from Acorn Hill, congregating on the green to drink into the small hours, and leaving their mess behind, which has resulted in this young boy having to suffer an horrific experience, while innocently playing.

“Local residents are fed up with the anti-social behaviour on the play area at night, and had this child fallen slightly different on the bottle we could be looking at a fatality.

“We wish the child a speedy recovery, and we hope the culprits read this and understand that local residents have had enough, and the PSNI have been contacted.”
