A south Armagh community have been left shocked following a gruesome discovery in Camlough Lake on Sunday.
A small Maltese terrier was tied up in red ribbon, placed in a plant pot, before being covered in a plastic bag and thrown into the lake.
The dog’s remains were discovered by an off-duty dog warden out fishing.
Sinn Fein councillor, Oonagh Magennis said the local community were left stunned.
“This incident has shocked the local community. The pictures circulating on social media are gruesome. The cruelty shown to this little dog is beyond comprehension.
“If anyone knows who owned this poor dog or seen anything untoward on the Keggal Road by the Lake please contact the authorities urgently.
“Those responsible for this terrible act on a defenceless animal must face the full consequences for their actions.”
A spokesperson for Pets Lost and Found Co Armagh said: “A small Maltese type dog has been found by a person fishing in Camlough/Bessbrook area. The dog was tied round the muzzle, in a bag with a plant pot attached and drowned.
“All relevant authorities have been notified.
“Someone knows what evil piece of s*** did this, they will be caught.
“If you know anything, suspect anything please get in touch.
“If you were near Keggall Road or the lake recently and have dash cam footage could you please check it asap.”
