Co Armagh to host major Job Fair next month

Some of the area’s biggest employers are hiring – and a major Job Fair planned for Portadown could put you on the path for a new career!

The Job Fair and Advice Forum will be held at the Seagoe Hotel on Thursday, February 5, between 10am and 5pm.

And, what’s more, it’s free and open to all.

It is being organised by the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) in conjunction with Craigavon Borough Council.

Speaking ahead of the event, Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry said: “This event brings employers, support organisations and jobseekers together under one roof. The Job Fair has something for everyone and I would encourage anyone, whether in work, unemployed or simply considering their education and training options, to explore the services which will be available on the day.”

Over 30 employers, including Almac, Omniplex Cinemas, Teleperformance and Fane Valley, will be in attendance, as will a number or support and training organisations.

The Job Fair will offer jobseekers employment opportunities on the day, careers guidance, advice on training and jobsearch skills.

The Minister continued: “A range of support organisations, for example my Department’s Careers Service and Employment Service, will also be present to provide individuals with information, advice and guidance on a range of training and employment schemes.

“These can assist individuals progress towards work and better employment prospects, equipping them with the skills to compete in the labour market and meet the needs of employers both now and in the future.”

A series of employer presentations from a number of organisations, including Almac, Southern Health and Social Care Trust and BT will also take place at the event.

The presentations will provide information on the type of jobs on offer, how to apply for current positions and the type of person the organisation looks for in a potential employee.

Kim Nesbitt, from Almac, who will be recruiting at the event, said: “The Job Fair and Advice Forum gives us the opportunity to interact with potential applicants and allows our recruitment to be more effective.

“This event demonstrates that DEL, Craigavon Borough Council, local employers and training organisations are working in partnership to help jobseekers find the most appropriate route into employment and employers recruit a skilled work force.”

There will be a free shuttle bus available from Lurgan Jobs & Benefits office, Alexandra Crescent, Lurgan from 9.30am each hour, and from Portadown Jobs & Benefits office, 140 Jervis Street, Portadown from 10am each hour.
