Confiscation Order against Bessbrook man

THE Social Security Agency Financial Investigation Unit has obtained a Confiscation Order to the value of £2,686 against a Bessbrook man at Newry Crown Court today.

On 21 June 2010 , 63-year-old Maurice McAnulty, of Brookville Crescent, pleaded guilty to fraudulently claiming Income Support and Rate Rebate amounting to £17,313 while failing to declare capital.

He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months.

At the hearing, the court granted a Confiscation Order for the amount of £2,686 to allow for repayments already made to the Department.

The Confiscation Order is to be satisfied by March 28. If it is not, the defendant will have to serve a sentence of three months imprisonment.
