A man who was in breach of a restraining order when he was found asleep in his mother’s living room has been imprisoned for two months.
Andrew John Roland, 26, of no fixed abode, appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, via videolink from Maghaberry, charged with a breach of a restraining order.
Court heard that on April 10, this year, police received a call from the defendant’s mother explaining that her son had entered her address without her consent.
When officers arrived they found Roland’s mother in the street crying, after she left the house out of fear.
Police entered the home and found Roland asleep in the living room.
Defence counsel stated that the defendant “has been an alcoholic for a long, long time” and had made “no threats of violence” during this incident.
They added that he had made appointments with Housing Rights, whilst in prison, in order to find an address as he had previously relied heavily on his mother.
District Judge Bernie Kelly said “there is only one penalty that I can impose”, as she told Roland “you have a horrendous record for someone of your age”.
The defendant was sentenced to two months in prison and ordered to pay an offender’s levy of £25.
