A Co Armagh man accused of cruelty to a child under 16 in his care will face the Crown Court later this year.
Court heard the accused, who was alleged to have “wilfully assaulted” the young person, was currently a serving prisoner.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stood charged with cruelty to a person under the age of 16 at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Defence barrister Aaron Thompson informed the court that his client was currently a serving prisoner.
The particulars allege that between February 24 and February 28, 2017 he wilfully assaulted a child in his care in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health.
Standing in the dock, the defendant submitted to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution stated that based on the papers before the court it had been found there was a prima facie case to answer.
The defendant was remanded in custody to appear before Craigavon Crown Court on October 15 for arraignment.
