Council approves Family Fun Day in Tannaghmore Gardens for Good Relations Week

Tannaghmore Gardens

ABC councillors have approved plans for a Family Fun Day in Tannaghmore Gardens on Saturday, September 21, as part of Good Relations Week.

The matter was mentioned at Tuesday’s (August 27) monthly meeting of the local authority, with strategic director of Neighbourhood Services, Jonathan Hayes, endorsing the plans.

The relevant agenda item explains that the planned event is all about promoting unity: “The theme for this year’s [Good Relations Week] celebration is ‘OpportUNITY’ – a call to action to create a brighter, inclusive future for all.

“‘OpportUNITY’ is a collective moment for us all to unite and be architects of change in helping build a region where every voice matters.

“Good Relations Week provides an opportunity to showcase the vital role of good relations work in peace building and community cohesion.

“Good Relations Week Family Fun Day is a free outdoor event that provides an opportunity for people to come together in a shared space and enjoy an inclusive family day with a range of fun activities on offer.

“On the day we will have inflatables, sports, climbing wall, arts and crafts, science workshops, circus skills and Exploris exhibition aquarium, to name a few.

“As well as fun activities, there will be plenty of vendors selling a variety of foods on the day.

“There will also be opportunities for residents to engage with a range of different service providers; Community Development, PCSP, Environmental Services and Advice Service.

“The event will be located between the multi-use pitch and car park.”

The recommendation to grant permission for the event was proposed by Councillor Liam Mackle (Sinn Féin, Lurgan DEA) and seconded by Councillor Kate Evans (UUP, Craigavon DEA).
