Craigavon charity’s new app a ‘mental health first aid kit’ for emergencies

The app allows users to access hundreds of wellbeing services near them at the click of a button

The Co. Armagh mental health charity, Just A Chat, has today (Thursday) launched a new app to coincide with World Mental Health Day.

The app allows users to access hundreds of wellbeing services near them at the click of a button.

Just A Chat is a Craigavon-based charity set up by local man Conor Hegarty and his wife in 2022, to help raise awareness and support for mental health issues in the ABC Borough – and sometimes further afield.

Alongside offering workshops to schools and clubs across Northern Ireland, the charity also launched a men’s football group, Just A Chat FC, which comprises over 60 members of all ages and abilities.

World Mental Health Day is marked on October 10 every year. The World Federation of Mental Health has set this year’s theme as ‘Workplace Mental Health,’ with the aim of addressing wellbeing in organisations.

The new app aims to be a “community hub for all things mental health”. Powered by FindHelpNI Northern Ireland’s largest directory of wellbeing services, users can connect to local support in seconds.

The app also provides more information on: Just A Chat FC; the women’s wellness group; and custom tailored mental health workshops.

Conor Hegarty said: “We are proud to support the community with this Mental Health and Wellbeing app that will offer crucial support and services in your area. This is essentially a mental health first aid kit that you can use in an emergency.”

You can download the Just A Chat app for free on the Google Play and Apple App Store platforms today.
