A Craigavon man who kicked one police officer to the groin and assaulted two others has been sentenced to five months in prison.
Sentencing the 20-year-old, the district judge commented that his record was “littered with offending of this nature”.
Jamie Lee Harvey, of Drumbeg, pleaded guilty to three counts of assault on police at Craigavon Magistrates’, via videolink from Maghaberry.
Prosecution outlined that on October 2, at 12.45am, police received reports of a male with a hammer in the Craigavon area.
Officers spoke with a number of persons, one of whom was identified as this defendant and was known to be on court bail.
Harvey was observed to be unsteady on his feet and appeared intoxicated.
When informed that a search was to be conducted, the defendant tensed up before striking out and kicking a constable in the groin.
Harvey was taken to the ground, where he continued to struggle, kicking out and striking two other officers.
Defence counsel Damien Halleron revealed that his client had received a 27-month sentence in the Crown Court for similar matters.
He stated that Harvey’s release date was July 1, of next year, and asked that any sentence imposed did not interfere with this.
