A Craigavon man who damaged a car, garden furniture and a window totalling over £2,000 has been given a conditional discharge after paying to cover the cost.
A district judge stated that this had been “a very expensive night out” for the 41-year-old.
John Patrick King, of Carrigart, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage and common assault at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Prosecution informed the court that the defendant had been under the influence at the time of the incident and that it had been spotted by a neighbour.
Defence solicitor Conor Downey commented that when interviewed King had alleged that the injured party, in this case, had previously assaulted him.
He stated: “This was never a criminal case and Mr King had taken the law into his own hands on this occasion.”
Court heard that the defendant was in full-time employment and had the full amount of £2,027.32 damage costs with him at court.
District Judge Bernie Kelly commented: “That is a very expensive night out.”
She ordered that King pay the full sum as compensation and handed him a conditional discharge for two years.
