A Lurgan man has been given the chance to attain his full licence despite being caught driving unaccompanied as a learner unaccompanied.
Pawel Kaminski, of Mourne Road, pleaded guilty to driving whilst uninsured and driving as a learner without L plates or accompanied at Craigavon Magistrates’ on Wednesday.
It was outlined how the 25-year-old was stopped by police on May 22 on Church Place, Lurgan, after crossing the central white line whilst turning a corner.
The defendant identified himself and produced a provisional driving licence.
Officers noted that the car had no passengers and was not displaying L plates.
Defence counsel explained the defendant’s sister owned the vehicle and the fact Kaminski was unaccompanied in the car negated any insurance policy.
She pleaded that any sentence “did not interfere with his lessons and ability to gain a full licence”, and appealed ffor a short disqualification to be given “so that he can start anew”.
District Judge Paul Copeland banned the defendant from driving for two months.
In addition to this, he was ordered to pay a fine of £325, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 12 weeks.
