A Craigavon man who assaulted his partner and two daughters must wait until the New Year to learn his fate.
Adjourning the 51-year-old’s case for a presentence report, the district judge commented: “This is obviously domestic, it sounds quite serious but I do take into account that this would appear out of character, given his record.”
Michael Dwyer Grogan, of Boghead Bridge Road, appeared charged with attempted criminal damage and three counts of common assault at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Prosecution outlined that on March 19, at 11.50pm, police received a 999 call from one of the complainants. She claimed her partner, the defendant, was intoxicated and had smashed windows at her home.
Officers arrived to find that two kitchen windows at the property had been smashed, along with one at the back of the home.
Police spoke with Grogan’s partner. She stated that the defendant had returned from working in England and had been consuming alcohol.
They had a disagreement which led to Grogan throwing a wine bottle at her. This missed the complainant and hit a cabinet.
The defendant then went outside and threw a dog bowl at a window, before punching his partner’s vehicle, although this caused no damage.
Grogan re-entered the property and he then threw drawers from the fridge at his partner.
He is then said to have pushed him arm against his 16-year-old daughter and to have pushed another daughter in order to get to their mother.
The two managed to get Grogan outside the property. They then locked the door and turned the lights off, whilst their mother contacted police.
The statements of the three females were taken by police on bodyworn camera and the defendant was subsequently arrested.
Grogan was conveyed to Lurgan Custody Suite, where he was bedded for the night due to his intoxicated state.
An interview was conducted on March 20, and during this the defendant provided mostly no comment to the questions put to him.
Upon hearing the facts, District Judge Amanda Brady stated: “This is obviously domestic, it sounds quite serious but I do take into account that this would appear out of character, given his record.”
She added that she would require the preparation of a presentence in the case.
The case was subsequently adjourned until January 22 for sentencing.
