A Craigavon man who claimed drugs in his car had been left there by a friend has been fined £300.
The 23-year-old’s solicitor told court that this offence referred to “scraps of cannabis left in a grinder”.
Michael McCrory, 23, of Derrytrasna Park, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Court heard that on November 24, the defendant was stopped driving on the Northway and spoken to by police.
Officers noted a smell of cannabis and upon searching the vehicle found a grinder containing a small amount of herbal cannabis.
McCrory was cautioned and interviewed for the offence of possession of a Class B drug.
He told police that the cannabis did not belong to him but that he was aware it was in the car.
Defence solicitor Pat Vernon stated: “Mr McCrory accepts possession but the drugs were not his and had been left in his car by a friend.
“He has nothing relevant on his record and this was scraps of cannabis left in a grinder.”
McCrory was ordered to pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 10 weeks.
