Man in handcuffs escapes police custody while being treated at Craigavon Hospital

A man who was arrested and handcuffed escaped police custody while awaiting treatment for an injury at Craigavon Area Hospital on Sunday.

The 22-year-old was arrested in Co Armagh on suspicion of stealing a car earlier in the day.

However, after complaining about an injury, the suspect was taken to the hospital to have it checked out.

It is here – still in handcuffs – the man made off in foot and into the night at around 8pm.

A subsequent search of the immediate area yielded nothing where he remains at large.

In a statement the PSNI said they arrested a man “on suspicion of a number of offences including driving whilst disqualified, driving with excess alcohol and criminal damage.”

Adding: “He was taken to Craigavon Area Hospital to receive treatment where he made off from officers on foot.

“Enquiries are continuing to locate the male.”
