Man shot outside county Armagh primary school

A man has been shot outside a County Armagh primary school.

Shots were fired from a car in the Craigavon area and the victim is believed to have been hit a number of times.

The shooting happened shortly after 3pm when children were leaving the school.

Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said: “There are no words to describe the foolhardiness and complete disregard for the safety of the children and parents who were in the area at the time.”

It remains unclear to the extent of the man’s injuries.

Detectives investigating a shooting incident in Moyraverty this afternoon have issued a further appeal for information.

Police believe a black BMW 525 Sport, reg JIG 8111, which was found on fire in Deramore Drive at 3.21pm this afternoon may be linked to the shooting.

Chief Inspector Burrows added: “We are very keen to trace the movement of this car this afternoon. If you noticed this vehicle or have any information in relation to the shooting, please contact us in Lurgan on 101.”

Sinn Fein’s John O’Dowd said: “This shooting outside St Brendan’s Primary School in the Moyraverty area of Craigavon was wrong and I totally condemn it.

“This was a terrifying experience for pupils and staff at the school.

“Those who carried out this shooting showed absolutely no regard for the pupils, their parents, school staff and the wider community.

“There can be no place for guns in our society.

“I would encourage anyone with information on this shooting to bring it forward to the PSNI.”
