A Craigavon man who exposed himself to two women, saying to one “feel how hard it is”, has been sentenced to five months in prison.
The 30-year-old’s barrister stated his client had no memory of the incident and said: “He is not someone to go around committing sexual offences.”
Robert Wilson, of Ardowen, pleaded guilty to burglary, criminal damage and two counts of exposure at Craigavon Magistrates’, sitting at Lisburn, on Friday, via videolink from Maghaberry.
Prosecution outlined that these offences related to two separate incidents.
Firstly, on April 26 the defendant had accessed a back storage area of Centra on the Lake Road, Craigavon, through a gate.
Whilst there he had filled a trolley full of goods to the value of £172.50.
CCTV was obtained from the scene and during interview Wilson made full admissions.
Then on May 4, at 7.40pm, a female made an allegation to the police that whilst she had been at an ATM outside Nationwide Building Society, Portadown, she had been approached by a male.
He was holding his penis in his hands and whilst looking straight at her stated: “Feel how hard it is”.
This female later was able to take a picture of this male whilst he hid behind a BT junction box.
A second female later reported that whilst in her car, less than 100 metres from the initial offence, a male had stood in front of her vehicle.
He then proceeded to attempt to get in the passenger side of the car but it was locked.
The female observed the male with his penis out playing with it whilst looking in her direction.
Wilson was stopped one hour later less than 100 metres the offences; bodyworn images taken by police match those taken by the first injured party.
At 11.15pm, that same day, the defendant went to his mother’s home but due to his intoxication he was refused entry, he then proceeded to kick a door and smash a window at the property.
Defence barrister Joel Lindsay stated: “Mr Wilson has a lengthy record, but he has no sexual offence or any for burglary.
“In the burglary he had made his way into the stock area at the back of the shop; he should not have been there so he was trespassing but it would appear to be a technical burglary.”
He continued: “In relation to the other offences, he has no memory, he is not someone to go around committing sexual offences.
“He says he was drinking heavily with a number of people and believes that his drink was spiked. He is apologetic, he has a history of drugs and alcohol and mental health issues.”
Mr Lindsay added: “The problem is that he has had no address available as the criminal damage relates to his mother’s home. He has spent 67 days in custody; that is almost a five month sentence.
“He will be on the sex offender’s register for sometime and that is something which he has brought upon himself.”
District Judge Amanda Brady sentenced Wilson to four months in prison for the offences and he was to be placed on the sex offender’s register for a period of seven years.
