A Craigavon man who wrote off three cars including his own after drink driving has been disqualified for 12 months.
Court heard the 41-year-old told police he had stopped drinking 10 minutes before the collision which occurred as he was changing radio stations in his car.
Adam Jasiecki, of Regency Drive, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol at Craigavon Magistrates’ on Wednesday.
Prosecution outlined that on September 18, at around 10pm, police received a report of a three vehicle road traffic collision on Avenue Road in Lurgan.
Officers arrived to observe a BMW with damage to its front around 87 feet from the other two vehicle involved.
The BMW had collided with a Skoda pushing it into a parked car.
Police spoke to the driver of the BMW, who identified themselves as the defendant, and noted that he appeared unsteady on his feet.
A preliminary breath test was conducted which resulted in a fail, Jasiecki was subsequently arrested and taken to Lurgan Custody Suite.
Whilst there, the defendant provided an evidential sample of breath that when tested gave a reading of 94mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
Prosecution informed court that the two vehicle which had been damaged in the collision were subsequently written off.
During interview, Jasiecki said that he had been visiting a friend and had consumed three or four tins of Budweiser.
He stated he had stopped drinking 10 minutes before the accident.
The incident occurred as he was driving off from a traffic light and lost concentration as he looked down to change radio stations.
The defendant told police he knew he should not have been drink driving and was ashamed.
Defence counsel stated: “This is a man who has resided here for 14 years, he has held his licence for seven years and it is clean except for three penalty points for speeding.
“He had been at a friend’s house watching the football; he had a few drinks and then made the foolish decision to drive”.
She added: “His own car was also written off, he was fully insured and his insurance company is dealing with the incident”.
Jasiecki was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 10 weeks.
