After receiving a neglected Shih Tzu into their care, a Moira-based animal rescue charity has issued advice to check in on your neighbours.
The charity Almost Home Animal Rescue posted images of a Shih Tzu by the name of Max who had sadly fallen into a regrettable condition as his owner became less fit to care for him.
While Max presented in a state of neglect with heavily matted fur and a painfully inflamed eye the charity have taken a compassionate stance stating that while the neglect they see is “never ok in any form” sometimes it isn’t “on purpose”.
A representative for the charity which specialises in the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of companion animals and other small animals across Northern Ireland explained: “Max’s mum always kept his coat beautifully until she simply couldn’t manage.”
Max’s owner had apparently fallen very unwell and had no additional help or support to care for him resulting in his sorry condition.
Rather than admonish the owner, the charity are now using his case as an educational tool, advising the public to “keep an eye on your neighbours, especially older folk and if things change see if they need some help.”
Thanks to Almost Home Animal Rescue Max – who they describe as “one of the sweetest little boys” has now been shaved, neutered and had his sore eye removed and is said to be “feeling much better”.
He has now joined the Almost Home Animal Rescue “family” and a plan for his rehabilitation is underway.
