Move your mood: Give your heart some love this February

February is bursting with hearts, hugs and chocolate—but it’s also National Heart Month, and your heart deserves more than a box of sweets. After all, it beats around 100,000 times a day, every day, without taking a break. That’s commitment.

Heart and circulatory conditions are still the leading cause of death in Northern Ireland, but here’s the good news: moving your body is one of the easiest and most feel-good ways to protect your heart. And it doesn’t have to be boring, brutal or time- consuming.

Regular exercise helps lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol, reduce stress, boost sleep and lift your mood. It’s good for your body and your head. Whether you’re just getting started, getting back into it, or managing a heart condition, moving a little more—at your own pace—can make a big difference.

Think fun, not fitness pressure:

  • Get your heart pumping with walking, swimming, cycling, pickleball or even chasing the kids.
  • Build strength with resistance training using weights, bands or bodyweight—future you will thank you.
  • Find your flow with yoga or Pilates to improve balance, flexibility and overall feel-good vibes.

At getactiveabc, there’s no one-size-fits-all. From solo gym sessions to family splash time, fitness classes, racquet sports, climbing and water sports, there’s something for every age, mood and energy level across nine local centres. No contracts, no pressure, just plenty of ways to get moving.
