NIE plans to demolish Craigavon base and build new starte-of-the-art office complex

Proposed NIE plans in Craigavon

The Northern Ireland Electricity base in Craigavon looks set to be demolished.

Proposals for the works have been drawn up and lodged with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

The site in question is at Annagh Drive, within the Carn Industrial Estate.

But NIE is not leaving. Instead, a new and larger complex is being proposed.

Plans have previously been approved.

But the latest application would add additional floorspace.

Indeed, the new facility would increase by close to 18,000 sq ft – from just over 20,000 sq ft to almost 38,000 sq ft.

There are no plans for any increase to the number of staff, which currently houses in the region of 120 staff.

The intention is to demolish the existing offices and mobile units.

It is hoped to build a new state-of-the-art office building complete with security hut and a cycle shelter.

Works would also be required in relation to road, landscaping and car parking.
