An over-the-limit motorist who crashed her car claimed she “gave in” and made a foolish decision to go and collect a person from a party.

Beata Batog (44), of Moyraverty Meadows, Craigavon, crashed at Ballyhannon Road at Portadown around 12.30am on Sunday, February 9 this year.

At Craigavon Magistrates’ Court the defendant pleaded guilty to a charge of driving with excess alcohol.

It was a single vehicle collision and the car was “written off”.

When taken to Banbridge Police Station the defendant had an alcohol in breath reading of 83mcgs – the legal limit is 35mcgs.

A defence lawyer said the defendant had alcohol at home and had gone to bed but a person rang her to ask her to pick her up from a party.

The defendant refused initially and tried to go back to sleep but the person kept phoning and she “very foolishly gave in” and made a decision to go and pick her up.

The lawyer said the defendant is “very embarrassed” and wished to apologise.

The defendant was banned from driving for a year and was fined £200.
