A Co Armagh pensioner has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with attempted murder.
Russell Hanna, 69, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court this morning (Wednesday) charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and possessing a weapon, namely a Stanley knife, at Derrytrasna Lane on Monday (December 18).
Hanna, of Derrytrasna Lane, stood in the dock to confirm his name and that he understood the charges against him.
The charges are a result of an incident which saw another man, in his 50s, stabbed in the neck, face and abdomen.
Concerns were raised over any potential bail application, with the accused living in such close proximity of the alleged incident.
However, defence counsel said no application would be made at this stage but that there is a potential bail address in Lisburn.
Hanna is due to appear at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court again on Friday, December 22 via videolink.
Following the incident Detective Inspector Harvey issued an appeal for witnesses.
He said: “We are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything in this area last night around 7.30pm to phone police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1263 of 18/12/17.”
