A Lurgan man is hoping the promise of employment in the New Year will keep him out of trouble with regards to drugs offences.
Court heard police found cannabis in the 22-year-old’s bed after waking him up during a search of his property under warrant.
Declan John Keenan, of Princes Street, pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecution outlined that on July 14, at around 8.50am, police searched the defendant’s home on Princes Street in Lurgan under warrant.
Officers entered to find Keenan asleep in his bedroom and detected a strong smell of cannabis.
The defendant was woken up and during a search a small amount of cannabis was found in a bag on his bed.
During interview, Keenan made full admissions and claimed the substance was for personal use.
Prosecution stated this was approximately a gram with a street value of £10.
Defence solicitor Peter Murphy said: “He does have relevant entries on his record but this predates the most recent sentence.
“He lives with his mother and has been offered work in construction in the New Year which will hopefully take him away from peers.”
Keenan was ordered to pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 20 weeks.
