Proposal to regenerate Brownlow gets undivided backing by council

Motion went before Council just days after planning permission was granted for a new leisure centre

Craigavon Council Chamber

A proposal to regenerate a neglected part of Co Armagh has got the undivided backing of Council.

The motion to inject a new lease of life into the Brownlow area went before a full house of ABC councillors at last night’s (Monday) monthly meeting.

SDLP councillor Declan McAlinden put forward the proposal for “the future integrated social, economic and physical regeneration of the Brownlow”.

It comes less than a week after a planning application for the South Lake Leisure Centre got the thumbs up, which Mr McAlinden believes will allow for further development in the area.

The motion added: “In developing such proposals, a fundamental principle will ensure community engagement and consultation on a proposed Integrated Development Plan.

“It is proposed that this matter is referred to the appropriate committee for action, for terms of reference and timetable of actions and provisional budget to be agreed.”
