There has been widespread condemnation after shots were fired in a county Armagh estate home to many young families.
Several shots were fired at a house in the Enniskeen area of Craigavon in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The incident happened shortly after 1am.
There was one man present in the house in what is understood to be a case of mistaken identity.
DUP councillor Robert Smith hit out at those behind an attack involving such a deadly weapon.
“”I am extremely shocked, there is absolutely no justification or reason for this,” he told the Belfast Telegraph.
“This isn’t the first attack in that area, there have been one or two incidents in the past.
“I would say to the people who have done this to leave the community alone.
“Innocent people could be harmed.
“Society is not a place for firearms.
“This is a close-knit community full of children, it only takes one stray bullet and someone could be killed and that would be on their conscience.”
Ulster Unionist Kenneth Twyble added: “This estate would be popular with young families, so it’s quite reckless for someone to come in like this with a firearm.
“It must have been very frightening for the man who was in the house at the time.
“It’s not the sort of thing we like to see happening here – we don’t want to see people with guns roaming the streets.”
A short time later police received a report that an Insignia car had been burnt out in a laneway in the Eastway area of Lurgan.
Police believe this vehicle may have been involved in this incident.
Detective Inspector Stephen Harvey would appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious persons or the Insignia car in the area of Enniskeen or Eastway to contact Detectives, Criminal Investigation Branch, Lurgan on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 77 05/10/17.
Ulster Unionist Doug Beattie also condemned the attack and said “There is no space on our streets for firearms, this is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
