Tributes have been paid to a “one of a kind” Moira man after he passed away suddenly while hiking in Donegal.
Carl Henderson (48) had been climbing Mount Errigal on Saturday (April 26) when he became seriously unwell.
According to the Irish Mirror, after collapsing the emergency services were immediately called in an operation overseen by the Malin Head Coastguard.
Among those who responded to the call was the Rescue 118 helicopter, which “rushed to the scene” said the publication.
He was then transported to Letterkenny University Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Upon learning of the father-of-three’s untimely passing, there has been an outpouring of grief from his friends and family.
Carl was known by many as a “lovely, kind and thoughtful man”, a true gentleman who brought a light into the lives of so many.
Sharing their condolences, one person said of Carl: “Absolutely devastated to receive this awful news this morning. Carl was such a kind soul. We will miss him terribly. Thinking of Caroline, Aibhilín, Rían and Caoimhe at this dreadful time.
Another said: “Oh Caroline, so, so sorry to hear this. Carl was such a lovely, kind, gentle and thoughtful man, bringing smiles to so many. Thoughts and prayers with you, your lovely children and wider family. God bless Caroline.”
A death notice described Carl as the beloved husband of Caroline and an incredible father to Aibhilín, Rían, and Caoimhe, and loving son-in-law of Patrick Ryan (Darlington). He was brother-in-law to Michael, Kathleen, Charlene, and Patsy, and a wonderful uncle to Dominic, Joseph, Katie, Zonya, Hannah, Cillian and his great nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was son of the late Geoffrey and Angela Henderson, son-in-law to the late, Maeve Ryan, and uncle-in-law to Aisling.
His funeral arrangements will follow shortly.
