A former treasurer for Crossmaglen Rangers is accused of seventeen historical sexual abuse offences against two alleged victims.
Thomas McKenna, whose address was given as HMP Magilligan but formerly of Crossmaglen, faces 14 counts of indecent assault against the first alleged victim and single counts of indecent assault, sexual assault and causing a person to engage in sexual activity against a second alleged victim.
The 64-year-old appeared at Newry Magistrates’ Court, via videolink from custody, on Wednesday charged with the offences which allegedly occurred on dates between February 24, 1993 and February 25, 2000 for the first complainant and July 31, 2001 and September 30, 2015 for the second.
McKenna stated his name and age before confirming that he understood the charges.
None of the facts were outlined in court during the brief hearing, however, the public prosecutor submitted the papers and stated there was a prima facie case to answer.
District Judge Eamon King said he was satisfied there was a case to answer.
McKenna was released back into custody and will be brought back before Newry Crown Court on July 2 for an arraignment hearing where he will enter a plea of guilty or not guilty.
