Man accused of breaking woman’s wrist and making threats to kill granted bail

A man accused of breaking a woman’s wrist following an alleged attack in a shop in south Armagh has been granted bail.

Brendan Carragher, 33, from Creenkill Road in Crossmaglen, faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and making a threat to kill.

The allegations relate to an incident at the Eurospar in Crossmaglen on February 21.

The High Court heard that the woman and her son were subjected to abuse from the defendant before he allegedly pushed her over – the fall breaking her wrist.

The prosecution claimed her son was also assaulted when he tried to restrain Carragher.

The court heard how the comments directed at the woman are believed to be connected to her husband’s imprisonment for sexual abuse offences.

It was also stated that police were unable to recover CCTV from the store, that it appeared to have been wiped.

Carragher was granted bail to an address in Bessbrook but was told he would not be released until he provided police with details of the service provider and number for his mobile phone he said went missing.
