A man in his 70s has died following a tragic accident on a farm in south Armagh earlier this week.
It is understood the man died following an incident with an animal on his farm in Mullaghbawn on Wedensday.
The Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI) have confirmed they are making enquiries into the incident.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a sudden death of a man, aged in his 70s, on the Newry Road in Mullaghbawn yesterday, Wednesday, March 28.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious.
“The Health and Safety Executive have been informed and are investigating.”
South Armagh Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin said the man was well-known in the area.
“This death on a farm in the will have shocked the local Mullaghbawn area and the wider community,” he said.
“This man was part of the farming community and we are all affected by such tragedies.
“He was an experienced farmer who worked all his life on the farm.
“Any death on a farm is one too many but statistics tell us that farming is one of the most dangerous professions you can do.
“I send my sympathies to the family and friends of this man at this difficult time.”
A spokesperson for the HSENI said: “HSENI are aware of the incident in South Armagh, and are making enquiries. Our thoughts are with the deceased family at this difficult time.”
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service was called to the scene at about 2.20pm on Wednesday.
“One rapid response vehicle paramedic and one emergency ambulance crew were dispatched to the incident,” said a spokesperson.
“The charity air ambulance was also tasked to the scene, but was stood down on route.
“No patients were transported from the scene.”
