The mother of a county Armagh man brutally murdered 10 years ago today has recalled the heartbreaking moment she found out her son was dead.
Stephen and Breege Quinn, from Cullyhanna, were speaking on RTÉ’s ‘Primetime’ ahead of the 10th anniversary of their son Paul’s death.
The 21-year-old was beaten to death by an IRA gang in a shed in Oram, county Monaghan on October 20, 2007.
His heartbroken mother, Breege, recalled those horrible moments 10 years ago.
“A nun came out, doctors came out after. They shook our hands and said ‘they left nothing to fix,’” Mrs Quinn said.
She said she could hardly remember the funeral she was in that much grief.
“I know we couldn’t put rosary beads in his hands they smashed him up so badly.
“We still have hope, it’s the only thing that keeps you going.
“Every day you hope for something or that someone will speak out. They just need the guts to come forward.”
Also speaking on the show, Paul’s brother Stephen said an altercation had taken place in their home village of Cullyhanna, which was a factor in the murder.
“Everybody in Cullyhanna knows who did it,” he said.
A family friend also claimed that a number of posters, appealing for information about the murder, have been torn down in the area.
Earlier this month it was reported that a reward has now been offered for information leading to a conviction.
The reward has been donated anonymously in a bid to flush out those responsible for slaying as cold case detectives look to take on the case.
