A commitment to fix one of the worst roads in south Armagh road has been made by Roads Service.
The Newry Road, leading into Crossmaglen had at least 30 defects in a small stretch over just a few hundred meters.
Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin councillor Terry Hearty said sanity has prevailed and that he now expects Roads Service to resurface the stretch of road from the Creamery Road junction into Crossmaglen.
The local councillor was commenting after confirmation from the Department of Infrastructure (DfI) will undertake the works – when funding is available.
“The condition of this road has been an ongoing issue of concern for myself, local residents and motorists,” explained councillor Hearty.
“A recent inspection highlighted the atrocious state of the B30 road inside the 30mile signs beside the Fairy Glen Estate.
“The Road Service Inspector marked nearly thirty defects of in this short section for patching.
“Really what it cost in time and paint it could be argued it would have been best resurfacing the area.
“Thankfully sanity has prevailed and agreement has been made to resurface from Creamery Road into the town.”
He added: “This work will be carried out when the funding is made available. I expect that this work will be done as a matter of urgency and will be completed in the near future.”
