Terrifying ordeal as man attacked by burglars who locked woman and children in room

Victim suffered injuries including cuts and bruises to face

A woman and three young children were forced into the room of a house in south Armagh while a man was taken outside and assaulted.

Police have issued an appeal for help after  the aggravated burglary, which happened at Cullyhanna at the weekend.

Detective Sergeant James Johnston said police received a report of the incident at around 22.50pm on Saturday, March 31.

They were informed that earlier in the evening, at around 7.50pm, a group of a males – some of whom had their faces covered – forced their way into a house in the Slatequarry Road area.

DS Johnston explained: “It was reported that a female and three young children who were in the house at the time were forced into a room in the property while a man, aged 34, was assaulted outside.

“The female and children were not physically injured, however, they were left shaken by the ordeal.”

The victim was treated at hospital for his injuries, which included bruising and cuts to his face, and police have appealed for information.

“Anyone who was in the Slatequarry Road area around this time and noticed any suspicious activity, or anyone who knows anything about this incident is asked to call detectives in Ardmore on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1389 of 31/03/18,” added DS Johnston.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
