This little fellow is in need of a life-saving operation.
And the local animal rescue group – Cavaliers in Need – is planning a doggy sports day to help raise the money needed to cover the costs.
Fred is a gorgeous one-year-old Bichon Frise dog who is in the care of Cavaliers in Need.
He has been diagnosed with the life-limiting condition PDA – in PDA, some of the blood which is leaving the left side of the heart is channeled back into the lungs.
Because of this, Fred’s heart must work harder to make sure enough blood is getting to the rest of his body and, if left untreated, premature death is likely.
In Fred’s case surgery is required as soon as possible as there are changes in his heart already.
Depending on how the surgery is carried out, it will cost between £1,500 and £3,500 and Cavaliers in Need is determined to raise this to give Fred the chance to live a full and happy life.
Fred currently lives with his foster mum who says: “He’s a great wee boy who loves cuddles and snuggles. He eats well but doesn’t put any weight on. He plays and mucks about as any other one-year-old dog and is a cheeky rascal to boot!”
Cavaliers in Need is holding a fun sports day to raise money for Fred’s surgery at Beechgrove Doggy Fun Park in Banbridge on Saturday, July 4, 2015 from 12 noon until 4pm.
All breeds of dog are welcome to participate in the fun and games.
