Bird flu has been confirmed in a wild goose found near Dungannon.

Confirmed on Thursday (January 16) to be Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1, the bird was found near Black Lough, Co. Tyrone.

It is the first wild bird to test positive in Northern Ireland since September 2023.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) said: “Excellent biosecurity remains the best defence for reducing the risk of transmission of avian influenza to poultry or other captive birds.”

Biosecurity guidance and a checklist can be found on the DAERA website.
