Dungannon restaurant left with unpaid bill say it was ‘genuine mistake’ and donate total to charity

A hugely-popular Co Tyrone restaurant that appealed for a group of diners to come forward after they allegedly left without paying a £365 bill have now said it was a “genuine mistake” and offered to donate the entire amount to charity.

Viscounts Restaurant took to social media following the incident, which happened on Sunday evening, April 19.

In the post, the restaurant said that a party of six had walked out without settling their bill, which came to £365.

Staff suggested it was “probably a genuine mistake” and expressed hope that those involved would get in touch to pay what is owed.

“As with every business at the moment it’s tough!!” the post began, reflecting the multitude of pressures facing the hospitality industry.

“Many thanks to a party of six on Sunday 19th who walked out without paying. A £365.00 bill – probably a genuine mistake and they will call and pay. CCTV is a wonderful thing,” the post continued.

However, on April 21 the business provided an update thanking the “power of social media!”

They said: “We are pleased to say it was a genuine mistake and the bill was paid this afternoon.

“We are now going to donate the £365 to charity.”

All’s well that ends well.
