Tributes have been paid to a popular Eglish tradesman whose work over the years will now “stand as a testament to his patience, pride and skill”.
Patrick Joseph Daly known affectionately as ‘Patsy’ passed away on November 2, 2025.
Many in the close-knit community have been left heartbroken by his death. He was well regarded to be “hard-working”, “civil” by nature and an all-round “great man”.
Remembering his life and legacy, Facebook page All Things Eglish said: “Patsy was a gifted tradesman and contractor.
“His work was always meticulous, and the many projects he completed throughout the area stand as a testament to his patience, pride and skill. One of his most recent projects was the construction of the new Parochial House – the place where these photographs were taken. He also undertook a renovation of St. Patrick’s Church in the 1980s.
“Patsy had a great love of greyhounds, a pastime he enjoyed immensely over the years.
“He will be deeply missed in Eglish. His warm personality and easy going nature made him a very popular and well-liked man.
“As much as his loss will be felt throughout the community, the greatest loss of all will be within his family, to whom we extend our sincere sympathy at this sad time to wife Linda, children, Cathy, John, Louise and Pauric. Brothers Finbar, Dominic and Brendan and the recently deceased Bernadette Loftus (RIP).
“Rest in peace Patsy.”
His local GAA club, where he was formerly a player, also shared their sincere condolences, commenting: “St Patrick’s GAC wish to send our sincere condolences to the Daly Family (Stiloga) on the passing of Patsy.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Linda, children Cathy, John, Louise, Pauric and the wider Daly family at this time.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
Of is infectious character, one person said: “Heartbroken… heartfelt condolences to you Linda and to Patsy’s children and grandchildren and the entire Daly family.
“Personally, I’ll miss our chats so much and his humour. Such a gentleman with a zest for life and a love of genealogy and Irish history. He will be so missed…God rest his kind soul.”
A death notice described Patsy as the dearly beloved husband of Linda (Duffin), devoted father of Cathy (Conor), John (Colette), Louise (Joseph) and Pauric (Toni), cherished Grandfather of James, Anna, Louis, Gráinne, Dearbhla, Caoimhe, Finn, Shea, Oscar and Freya, son of the late Denis and Hilda Daly RIP, brother of Finbar, Dominic, Brendan and the recently deceased Bernadette Loftus (RIP).
His funeral arrangements are to follow.
