The funeral details have been announced for a young man who died in a lake in Co Tyrone at the weekend.

Fiachra Ó Faoláin, from The Bantry, died after getting into difficulty in Carrick Lough – on the Carricklongfield Road between Aughnacloy and Benburb – on Saturday evening.

He was 21-years-old, with his family describing him as a “loving and caring young man with a bright future ahead of him”.

A death notice released last night (Monday) said Fiachra was the beloved son of Shane and Fiona (née Gildernew) and brother of Roisín, Méabh, his twin Dearbhla, Dáithí and Dualtách.

He was also the dear grandson of Phelim and Geraldine Gildernew and Eileen and the late Patsy Fullen.

His remains will repose at his late residence until removal on Thursday at 10.45am for 12pm Requiem Mass in St Joseph’s Church, Caledon.

He will be interred afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Wake times will be on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 10om. The house is asked to be private on Monday evening and Thursday morning.

The notice adds that he is very deeply regretted and sadly missed by his mother, father, brothers, sisters, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Former Sinn Fein MP Michelle Gildernew has since posted a tribute to her nephew online, which reads: “There are no words.

“I’ve heard that so many times and there aren’t, but there are actions.

“Every hug, every handshake, every message & phone call, we have been comforted and supported.

“Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your care.”
