Moy group ‘crying out for stitchers and cutters’ to help make scrubs for our health care workers

Moy NI Scrubs leader Jenny says volunteering is a great way to put in time at home while performing a very valuable role at this time

Scrubs

A Moy-based group of volunteers are “crying out for stitchers and cutters” to help make scrubs for our health care workers.

The NI Scrubs organisation has groups all over the country who are busy working away.

And it is no different in Moy, where group leader Jenny Millar is calling on others to get involved and help during these difficult times.

Materials have been donated from which to make the scrubs – and money is being raised to buy more – but more volunteers are needed for the actual work.

Jenny says it is a great way to keep busy during the lockdown period while performing a very vital function in protecting our health care workers as they work to protect us.

She told Armagh I : “There are people cutting and sewing all over Northern Ireland.

“I got involved when I saw it on Facebook and thought it would be a fantastic way to keep myself busy.

“I offered to help anyone in the Moy area who needed somewhere to collect and drop off from, then I get the stuff from the main Mid-Ulster Scrubs group – where the leader is Kasia Rogowiec – and drop off the finished scrubs bags and scrubs to them.

“We’ve now got a girl bringing it to me and collecting which is great, because it gives me more time to sew.

“Most of the ladies in my group are still working or have families so are taking a few hours every day out of their busy day to help out.

“I’m finding it very difficult to get more volunteers to sew and cut.

“There have been so many fabric donations from local businesses and there’s a go fundme set up to buy more fabric, thread, clear plastic bags and anything else that’s needed.”

If you would like to get invovled you can make contact with Jenny via Facebook by going to ‘NI SCRUBS Mid Ulster Area’ and leaving a message – they will be delighted to hear from you!

Please note, the group can no longer accept donations of bed linen due to health and safety issues.
