Moy Health Centre extension plan to provide greater range of services and accommodation on site

'The development will provide additional and improved clinical, healthcare, interview and administrative accommodation'

Moy Health Centre

An extension is being planned at Moy Health Centre which would see a greater range of services and accommodation available at the Charlemont Street site.

Proposals for the development have been drawn up and lodged for consideration with Mid-Ulster District Council.

The plan – which also involves internal alterations, parking and site works – is to enhance what is available at Moy, with this to be accommodated within a single-storey extension rather than a separate new-build base.

A supporting statement advises: “The proposal seeks to provide additional and improved accommodation within the existing Health Centre site, allowing the established healthcare facility to continue to provide a range of primary and community healthcare services from its existing location.”

And it adds: “The development will provide additional and improved clinical, healthcare, interview and administrative accommodation, enabling the existing Health Centre to continue to provide appropriate primary and community healthcare facilities from its established location.

“The proposed accommodation and layout have been developed in consultation with HSCNI and have been agreed with HSCNI in relation to the functional and healthcare requirements of the development.”

The new extension would boast a dedicated physiotherapy consulting room, shared Physio/GMS consulting room, practice nurse room, social work interview room, multi-disciplinary team admin accommodation and accessible toilet provision, incorporating baby-changing facilities.

The accommodation has been designed to integrate directly with the existing Health Centre, with new internal connections formed between the existing and proposed accommodation.

The supporting statement explains: “The detailed room arrangements provide appropriate clinical furniture, examination facilities, wash-hand basins, storage, worktops and circulation space where required.

“The design also incorporates appropriate wheelchair manoeuvring space within relevant clinical accommodation.

“The extension allows these facilities to be provided as an integral part of the established Health Centre rather than through a separate or unrelated development elsewhere.

“The development therefore supports the continued use and improvement of an established healthcare facility serving Moy and its surrounding community.”

The existing ramped access will remain at the front of the Health Centre and two ‘accessible’ parking spaces are provided close to the building, along with a dedicated ’emergency bay’.

The internal layout has been “designed to provide appropriate circulation within the new accommodation”.

The existing vehicle access to Moy Health Centre will remain, with no new access onto Charlemont Street on the cards.

Existing car parking, meanwhile, is to be “rationalised as part of the works”, with renewed parking bay markings and “localised alterations”.

“The parking and circulation arrangements have been developed to maintain practical and safe access for patients, visitors, staff and emergency requirements, while making effective use of the existing Health Centre site,” according to the supporting statement.

The plans are contained within the Health Centre site, with no works or alterations proposed to the ‘Moy Gates and Screen’, described as a heritage feature of significance within the wider surroundings and historically associated with Roxborough Castle.

The application for the Moy Health Centre extension will now be advertised shortly.
