‘Nasty and abusive’ Moy woman told ex-partner to hang himself and claimed to be dying

The complainant described one call in which she asked to meet him to sign documents claiming she 'had a tumour and only had three months to live'

A Moy woman who admitted domestic abuse charges against her former partner after the relationship ended, told him to “hang himself because he was worthless.

Amanda Cavlin (53) from Meadowview, also claimed to have only three months to live in an attempt to have the victim meet her and when he refused she immediately became “nasty and abusive.”

behaving in an abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm and persistently using a communications network to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety.

Defence lawyers attempted to have the PPS agree to an alternative disposal, but this was “to no avail” so both charges were accepted and pre-sentence reports ordered,

Dungannon Magistrates Court heard Calvin’s ex-partner contacted police on June 16 2025 to report she had been harassing him following the relationship ending several months beforehand.

This involved her repeatedly ringing him from a withheld number and on a number of occasions he recorded the exchanges.

Officers listened to the recordings and Cavlin could be heard speaking and admitted she had been ringing.

In one night alone the victim received up to 100 calls despite him repeatedly asking her to stop.

He described one call in which she asked to meet him to sign documents claiming she “had a tumour and only had three months to live.”

The victim told her to send the documents through a solicitor this made her, “nasty and abusive, stating he would have hit him harder during a previous incident which led to the relationship ending.

She also told him to “hang himself because he was worthless” which left him humiliated and when he begged her to stop she said she would do what she wanted.

The victim also learned Cavlin had found out his new address and been calling to the house pretending to post mail which although stamped was not franked.

Cavlin, the court heard, set up a fake Facebook account using an alias to monitor the victim’s activity, including trying to engage in conversation.

She has also previously contacted the victim’s GP practice seeking his new address.

The defence said Calvin did not accept the content as set out and while admitting making the phone calls, the matter was “not all one-way traffic, and this was a toxic relationship”.

He said she had continued to receive post for the victim and was simply passing it on to him.

It was acknowledged a Victim Impact Statement made “very traumatic reading” however the defence pointed out since coming before the court Calvin had been the subject of Press reports and these have been, “Cut out and stuck on lampposts, hotels, car parks, and outside her place of work.

“She has a number of issues and has engaged with Women’s Aid who have assigned her a counsellor,” said the defence.

“It was a toxic relationship and she continues to receive texts and messages from her ex-partner which she has chosen not to report to police . She is in a better place that she was and has moved on.”

District Judge Francis Rafferty remarked, “This case exists somewhere in the grey area of the ending of a toxic relationship where there is always some residue left behind.”

He told Cavlin, “You pleaded guilty to serious criminal offences and the pre-sentence report suggests Probation Services would render a degree of assistance. If you do need to communicate with the victim for any reason whatsoever, do it through a solicitor.”

Judge Rafferty imposed a 12 month Probation Order along with a two year Restraining Order banning Cavlin from any form of contact with the victim.
