Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council is currently considering an application to convert an existing outbuilding into three self-catering accommodation units.
Lodged by agent MOR Architects on behalf of applicant M. Patterson, the application seeks permission to part convert an existing outbuilding to three self-catering accommodation units at 12 Derrycaw Road near Moy.
A design and access statement that accompanies the application notes the accommodation will be ancillary to the Moy Equestrian Centre and notes the 0.7 hectare site is approximately 1.7 miles east of Moy and roughly one mile from the bounds of Mid Ulster District Council.
The equestrian facility provides a unique all weather, cross country and show jumping arena that caters for novice to experienced rise and attracts visitors from all over the island.
With demand for booking the facility having grown considerably in recent years, many users have expressed a desire to stay onsite.
According to the design and access statement, unit one will be a wheelchair accessible one bed studio style unit. Unit two, will provide two bedroom family accommodation while unit three will provide one bed accommodation.
Access to the units is proposed via a shared entrance lobby and onsite car and bike parking is proposed to be provided.
The statement also claims the proposal will bring additional visitors to the area which will see increased “diversity and much welcome trade to local shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs” which will, it claims help create “prosperity and employment”.
According to the application form, the proposal will not require construction of a new access road or the alteration of an existing access to a public road.
Currently, there are five parking spaces available at the site and a total of five spaces are proposed should this development be approved.
The site is not within an area of known risk of flooding, any surface water that gathers will be disposed of via a soakway and the three units will be supplied with water by the mains. Foul sewage will be disposed of via a septic tank.
Lodged on Monday, April 3, the application was validated on Monday, April 24 and will be advertised until Friday, May 26.
