Police in Dungannon responded to a report of a disturbance in the Maplebrook Hill area of Coalisland at around 6.30pm last night, Wednesday 12 August.
It was reported that several people were involved in a fight in the street and that some of the parties may possibly be armed with knives.
Upon police arrival no fight was ongoing and no one made themselves known to officers as having been attacked or having witnessed what happened.
During follow up enquiries at a nearby house a man was arrested for possession of ammunition in suspicious circumstances.
Police are carrying out further investigation into the incident to establish exactly what has happened and those enquiries are ongoing.
The arrested man, 35, has since been charged with the ammunition offence and will appear in court in Dungannon on September p. As per normal procedure, charges are reviewed by the PPS.
Independant Republican Cllr, Dan Kerr said: “Many people have been in touch with me regarding the incident in Maplebrook. Ive been sent photos and videos. Residents deserve better, not to live in fear constantly.
“These criminal elements have to be condemned as someone could possibly get hurt or killed and I send solidarity to the residents in Maplebrook and elsewhere who are overwhelmingly decent folk who don’t need this on their doorsteps.”
